House Painting Tips - Interior

If you have never painted a home, don't be intimidated. Here are some house painting tips that may be helpful in getting yourself off to a good start.

When painting a home, most of the time you spend will be spent in prep time - getting things ready. And that is what most of the following house painting tips focus on - getting yourself ready to paint.

Interior House Painting Tips

The number one rule is - cover everything that you can. Sure this takes a bit of time but it takes a lot less time than cleaning off all of the paint droplets that splattered into places where they had no business. Use drop covers to cover the floors. Move the furniture to the center of the room and cover them with drop cloths as well. Move small items out of the room entirely.

Choose good quality paints. You may think that you're getting a good deal by    buying cheap paints. But you'll most likely pay in two ways. One, you will almost certainly need more coats of paint when you use  a poor quality paint as opposed to a good quality paint. So, even if you paid half of the price, since you're using twice as much, the cost comes out the same. Secondly, since you have to do more coats of paint, you take twice as long or more - thus wasting your time. And three, when you have to clean the walls, many times the poor quality paint will rub off along with the dirt - forcing you to do touch-ups or leave a bad spot on your walls.

Use painters tape on the windows. Before applying the tape, however, make sure that the windows panes are clean and dry. This will help to ensure that it comes off easily once you've completed the painting. You can also use painters tape on door jambs and window sills where their color is different form the color of the adjacent wall.

Buy quality brushes. If you take care of them, they will last for years. The advantage of a quality paint brush is that it'll hold more paint, spread more evenly, and not leave streaks across your walls. For latex paints, synthetic brushes are better than natural brushes. And when your paint brush eventually does go bad, don't throw it away. Save it for use in painting brick, concrete, and the like where you don't necessarily need a quality brush.

One of the Most Unusual House Painting Tips Ever

Energy savings is all the buzz now. But companies are now producing paint additives that will insulate your home. One such company is www.hytechsales.com. They produce an additive which combines with the paint to produce a mixture that will reflect up to 90% of the heat back to the source. This can reduce your heating bills in the winter and your air conditioning bills in the summer.

If you've ever watched a home improvement show, you know how quickly paining can get done - it's not rocket science. And, for all except the biggest projects, house painting is a good DIY project that you can do by yourself without having to hire a contractor.
